"Marty Clubb has built L’Ecole No 41 into one of Walla Walla’s flagships...making wines that represent the region, the wines that signify Walla Walla."

Spring 2007

Dear Friends of the Winery,

New Spring Wine Releases

Spring is upon us and with it comes the anticipation of new buds in the vineyards and of course the excitement of seeing many of you here at the Schoolhouse during the month of May! We are pleased to release four new vintages of these classic spring favorites:

2006 “Walla Voila” Chenin Blanc
100% Chenin Blanc
Jean Ferguson, L’Ecole No 41’s founding winemaker, loved Vouvray and crafted her version in 1987, our first vintage of ‘Walla Voila’. Pronounced with a French accent and meaning “here it is!”, this regional, whimsical pun captures the lively and vibrant flavors of this wonderful varietal. Enjoy the brightly perfumed peach and orange blossom aromas with flavors of fresh apricot and pear on a floral ruby grapefruit finish.

2004 Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc
With the hard 2004 winter, we were only able to produce 855 cases of this limited wine. The 1,000 foot upper elevation blocks at Seven Hills Vineyard cropped just over 1.5 tons per acre to produce this elegant and richly structured Cabernet. Its old world structure shows cassis, black cherry and cocoa with leather, tobacco and savory spice on a balanced toasty finish.

2005 Seven Hills Vineyard Estate Merlot – Walla Walla Valley
82% Merlot , 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc
With the entire vineyard vine age now over nine years, this consistently rich and flavorful Merlot from our estate vineyard shows its characteristic cedary, silky black cherry fruit with baking spice aromas and a gripping yet elegant mix of blueberry, blackberry and cocoa on a long lingering finish.

2005 Seven Hills Vineyard Estate Syrah – Walla Walla Valley
100% Syrah
This Syrah is a blend of three different blocks from our estate vineyard. Each block is planted with the Phelps clone and contributes unique characteristics to the wine. Loaded with aromatic spice and cola on the nose, this wine shows flavors of ripe, dark plum and dense blackberry that give way to a concentrated and unrelenting finish.

Walla Walla Valley wineries celebrate their art with a tasting featuring the Valley’s newest releases alongside a rare selection of older vintages. This is an extraordinary opportunity to taste the wines of the present and visit some gems from the past pulled from winery libraries. The L’Ecole staff enjoyed tasting through some of our older vintages in search of a wine worthy of showcasing at this special tasting. We chose our 1998 Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a beautiful wine we can’t wait to share!

On the Chalkboard

Along with several other Washington wineries, L’Ecole No 41 is a proud participant in a series of international Taste Washington events sponsored by the Washington Wine Commission. New vineyard property for L’Ecole No 41.
At an elevation of 1400 feet, this 25 acre site overlooks Seven Hills Vineyard. It is beautiful, prime vineyard ground with shallow wind blown loess on top of fractured basalt. This is our piece of the new 1,500 acre Seven Hills Properties Development. We have done soil amendments with organic compost and mineral additions for a planned spring planting in 2008.
